Mermaid: Blue Eyes #MerMay

Mermaid: Blue Eyes
Step by Step

To celebrate MerMay I'm putting up my step by step of my oil painting "Mermaid: Blue Eyes."
I'd done several small thumbnails of my idea of doing a portrait of a mermaid, using just her face, hands and hair in a square canvas, before doing the pencil directly onto the canvas board.
I first went over the pencil with a green line in oils
Did the face and skin tones, with greenish shadows
Starting the background
Putting the greens in the kelp
Giving more detail to the kelp fronds and her hair
Finishing the shell and sea life decorating her hair and a pet fish
Framed and sold! at IlluXcon 2014

Craft Fair Weekend!

Craft Fair Weekend

It's time for the only two craft fairs I'm doing this season!  Come see my lampwork glass based crafts (no arts or prints) at either of these two fairs - Saturday in Beacon, NY, and only on Sunday in Chelsea, NYC.  The links are at the bottom of the page.

This is your chance to see in person some of the new things I've made. Here are my miniature glass seascapes!  I make each sea anemone, shell or sea star on the mandrel and then assemble them together with epoxy and fine sand.  I haven't seen anyone else making these yet on the internet, so come get something really original and one of a kind!  The cherry or walnut wood blocks they are on  is only 1.5" square, to give you an idea how tiny they are.

Gifts

From the Bead Studio

Over the holidays, I worked at the torch to make some presents for my relatives.  I don't know what to call these beads, which were inspired by the work of Kate Drew-Wilkinson, master lampworker, but they're very pretty.  Kind of victorian looking.  I could see them used for something steampunk.

Some tiny shoreline beads for a dear friend who likes her necklaces to be small and light.
