Here are some new lampwork glass beads I've been working on, all available at the craft fair in Beacon this Saturday and at the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade in New York City on Sunday.

Glass headed flat head pins are a great little stocking stuffer for your needleworker, very handy for sewing or just decorating a pincushion. I made the little sea monster just to show off the pins.  It looks a bit perplexed.  After all, what has it done to deserve all this poking?

Craft Fair Weekend!

Craft Fair Weekend

It's time for the only two craft fairs I'm doing this season!  Come see my lampwork glass based crafts (no arts or prints) at either of these two fairs - Saturday in Beacon, NY, and only on Sunday in Chelsea, NYC.  The links are at the bottom of the page.

This is your chance to see in person some of the new things I've made. Here are my miniature glass seascapes!  I make each sea anemone, shell or sea star on the mandrel and then assemble them together with epoxy and fine sand.  I haven't seen anyone else making these yet on the internet, so come get something really original and one of a kind!  The cherry or walnut wood blocks they are on  is only 1.5" square, to give you an idea how tiny they are.

Holiday Gift Tags - Free Printable

Seasons Greetings!

This year a little fennec fox named Luna joined our family.  In honor of this newest member of our household, this year's gift tags show our little girl being naughty and being nice.  Like most little ones, she is a bit of both.

Instructions:

1. Print out the downloaded file on a sheet of card stock
2. Cut out each tag along the pale blue lines - use scissors, x-acto knife & ruler or paper cutter.
3. Punch out holes with a hole punch or just attach to your gift with tape or glue. I also drew in gold marker along the edges for more decoration.

DIY: Leaf Pincushion Pins

 Leaf Pincushion Pins Tutorial

For all you crafters who sew, or know someone who sews, here's a little way to green up your pincushions!

Materials:

Sculpey

x-acto blade or even a toothpick will do

foil

flat top pins or needles from the dollar store

Choose or make various shades of green by mixing the ready made colors with white or clear sculpey.  Just knead the two shades together until blended.  Roll into a tube, and cut some slices.

Make a leaf shape of a slice by rolling it into a ball, flattening it, and pinching one end.  Push in the pin or needle, and push the clay back onto the puncture so it's sealed.  Its nice to have decorative pin heads that are flat, as they are easier on the fingers and okay to iron over.

Gently press the x-acto blade or toothpick onto the top of the sculpey to make the veins of the leaf.

I got some leather punch tools to press into my sculpey pins as well!

 Place or even make the pins right on top of a small piece aluminum foil.  That way you don't even have to move them after you've form them, and distort their sides.  Bake at 275 degrees for 10 minutes and they are done!  So simple and fun!

Craft Fairs

Craft Fairs June 1st & 2nd

I belong to two Etsy teams, Etsy NY and Hudson Valley Etsy Team, and they are each having a craft fair on the first weekend of June.  I will be hoping for no wind or rain and showing my jewelry and my NEW one of a kind stuffed monsters.  No artwork, just crafts from me at these two shows.  The forecast is for a sunny weekend so come on out!

DIY: Drawing on Stones

Memories of Summer

I was spent several days on Shelter Island in June and collected a bag full of smooth white stones from the seashore.  I thought they would make nice mini-canvases for some simple drawings or doodles.  Below are the steps for making the simplest of paperweights and a little record of the events of the summer.

Shelter Island

Clean your stone so that it is free of dirt or seaweed.  Draw your design in pencil.

  I will use pictures for reference, but this is just a simple starfish.

FW Inks are permanent and opaque.  You can use either a very fine brush or a pen for your drawing.  Keep a cup of water handy for rinsing out your brush or pen before the ink starts to clog.  Hold the stone in your non-drawing hand and turn it so the surface you’re working on faces you.  Steady your drawing hand by keeping part of your palm or wrist on the table or tucked against your side.  Clean off excess dried ink on your brush or pen with a tissue.

FW Ink dries quickly.  If you make a mistake you will have to sand it off!  When your drawing is finished and the ink is dry, use a kneaded rubber eraser to remove the graphite pencil lines that are left. 

Finished!

I found these stones useful for keeping my papers in place when the ceiling fan was on!
